SCAT (Santa Fe Compost Action Team—Composting)
Project Description
Participation in this project requires successful completion of the Master Composter Volunteer Training course. Graduates of this program are certified to provide public education on home composting at various public events throughout the year. SCAT members also maintain the Compost Demonstration Site on the SF County Extension campus on a weekly basis throughout the year and offer monthly educational composting clinics to the general public and SFEMG members there, April through October. Finished compost is provided to other SFEMG projects upon request.
Project Goal
To increase knowledge and use of composting by Santa Fe residents in order to increase recycling of waste and improve garden soils in Santa Fe.
Work Schedule:
PE occurs throughout the city/county. Planned events include compost education tables at community events during EarthWeek (April), the SFEMG Garden Fair (May), the SF County Fair (August), farmers’ markets (summer), and others as requested and approved. Compost Clinics occur monthly at the demonstration site. Classes may be offered on specific composting topics. Events vary in length; staffing is usually arranged in 2-hour blocks.
