SFEMG Projects & Demonstrations
At the Garden Fair you will find many SFEMG Projects to explore. Here is a preview of some of the offerings at the Garden Fair.
Ask a Master Gardener
Master Gardeners will be available to provide research-based answers to your questions about the native plants available in our Plant Sale as well as any other gardening questions you might have.
Audubon Center Wildlife Garden
The Santa Fe Master Gardeners partner with the Randall Davey Audubon Center to develop and maintain demonstration gardens at the Audubon Center. The gardens include a Wildlife Attracting Garden, Native Perennial and Shrub beds, a small Cactus bed and a Pollinator Garden.

Cactus Garden
Visit our cactus demonstration garden to learn more about these wonderfully drought-tolerant plants that compose an appealing garden that receives minimal maintenance and almost no supplemental water.
Cornell Rose Garden
SFEMG volunteers assist with the City of Santa Fe with the maintenance of the Harvey H. Cornell, Sr. Rose Garden.
Rose Family Garden
The Rose Family Garden features primarily native plants in the Rosaceae family to demonstrate their variety and use as waterwise choices in Santa Fe. The plantings in the demonstration garden provide resources for native bees, butterflies, other pollinators, and beneficial insects.
The Habitat Project
The Habitat Project educates and assists the Santa Fe community by visiting their properties to show them the best ways to manage them as wildlife habitats, considering soil, water, light, shelter, pollinators, and plant selection and placement.
Herb Garden
The Herb Demonstration offers examples of useful herbs that are successful in our northern New Mexico climate, ranging from culinary annuals to aromatic and culinary perennials.
Santa Fe Compost Action Team (SCAT)
SCAT members maintain the Compost Demonstration Site throughout the year and offer monthly educational composting clinics from April through October.
Santa Fe Native Plant Project (SNaPP)
SNaPP volunteers maintain three separate and unique demonstration gardens at the Santa Fe County Fairgrounds to provide inspiration for your low-water, low-maintenance garden. There is also a rainwater harvesting demonstration area that provides ideas about making the most of the precious rainwater that falls on your property.
Santa Fe Seed Stewards
The Santa Fe Seed Stewards Project is a public education program of the Santa Fe Master Gardener Association. Its mission is to promote the awareness and importance of our seeds as the most elemental source of everything we depend on – food, clothing, and shelter.
Santa Fe Public Spaces Tree Inventory Project
The Santa Fe Public Spaces Tree Inventory Project is a collaboration between Santa Fe Extension Master Gardeners (SFEMG) and the City of Santa Fe. Master Gardeners and public volunteers conduct field surveys on city properties, primarily parks, to identify the location, type, and condition of trees. Participants learn how to identify tree types, evaluate tree condition, and document tree maintenance needs. A unique feature of the project is the data tools that volunteers learn to use. This includes mobile GIS inventory and digital tools to measure tree location, height, and size. Volunteers learn about pests, common site issues that affect growth, and best performing trees.
Vegetable Garden
Visit the vegetable demonstration garden to learn about vegetables that are successful in our northern New Mexico climate.
The Garden at El Zaguán
Partnering with Historic Santa Fe Foundation, Santa Fe Extension Master Gardeners work to restore, maintain, and enhance a beautiful 19th century flower garden that combines exotic, native and waterwise plants and sustainable gardening practices.
