Gardening Best Practices for Beautiful and Sustainable Landscapes

Learn about the creation of El Zaguan’s 19th century flower garden, and how emerging climate challenges and support for wildlife drive new plant choices and cultivation methods. Discover practical strategies to promote gorgeous and environmentally friendly gardening across the seasons. Q&A, garden tour, light refreshments, free admission.

Building a Hummingbird Garden

Growing a Meadow from Seed

Turn any underutilized space — from a field to a neglected corner of your yard — into a sustainable, pollinator-friendly meadow. You’ll learn to select native wildflower and grass seeds, prepare soil, sow seeds, irrigate them for successful germination, and perform long-term maintenance.

How to Remove (Deadhead) Spent Rose Blooms Properly

Instructions from 9:00-9:30 AM; Deadheading until 12:00 PM
Proper deadheading stimulates new growth and offers an opportunity to shape the bush. Wear long-sleeved shirts, gloves, hat; bring pruners and plastic-type containers for cut rose canes.
